Report from Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning)UTAS to have a key role in a multi-university project “Enabling and developing leadership in multi-campus universities through the development of communities of practice”. The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (previously named the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) has approved $218,914 in funding for the project “Enabling and developing leadership in multi-campus universities through the development of communities of practice”. This project will bring together 4 core universities and up to 22 participating institutions. The University of Tasmania has a key role in this project undertaking to provide support, guidance and supervision of the project officer, under the general guidance of the project team, as well as providing financial management and monitoring the progress of the project. This project builds upon the work on multi-campus teaching already carried out by the Carrick Institute, the University of Tasmania and the other universities named in the proposal. While this work has begun to identify effective practices, knowledge and resources that can be developed and shared, it has clearly identified a major gap that needs to be addressed to facilitate systemic improvement in cross-campus teaching. The project addresses this need and does so in an inclusive way that enables all institutions who participated at the Cross-Campus Teaching Forum to contribute. The project is due to start in the second half of 2008 and will continue until late 2010.
